1999 Stockton Folk Dance Camp Diary
The Warm Up

Sunday July 25, 1999

Registration has just begun for the first week of Stockton Folk Dance Camp. To many dancers just arriving, it seems like a sleepy afternoon, but what they don't know is that Grace Covell Hall at the University of the Pacific has been a hive of activity for days beforehand.

Before anyone can dance, the floors have to go down in 3 dance halls. Every year these floors are built, re-built and modified on Saturday and Sunday before camp starts.

Greg Lund, Clogging Teacher and floor finisher extraordinaire shows the novices how to handle a drill.

Some people arrive on Saturday to settle in and test drive the newly-laid floors.

The University of the Pacific is a labyrinth of beautiful brick buildings, lawns, and huge trees. The signs go up so campers don't get lost.

Heavily laden campers begin a caravan of baggage delivery at around 2 p.m.

This is not just any summer camp, we have real food!
